TERRA TWIN THE RECOGNISER

Their second EP in tow, London indie rock outfit Terra Twin have offered a first taste of their new material with electrifying new single 'The Recogniser'. The track breathes a double life, which is rather on par, as frontman Maxim Baldry can be recognised on-screen as part of the main cast of The Rings of Power. Though Terra Twin possess a musical identity that is completely separate from fantastical worlds and held down to earth with heartland influence, 'The Recogniser' expresses its own theatrics. The track begins in a self-contained way through a grainy Americana lens. Catchy and upbeat with a New Order pop pulse, there is already a lot of life in it. Baldry's delivery holds interest with tepid exclamations of 'I feel nothing!' and the overall intrigue within the chorus: 'You must be / Born of two minds / Redefining the locus of what you might find'. On the subject of two minds and double lives, Terra Twin do not sit on a fixed point. The track reaches its break in what sounds like a howling scream, a dizzying electric shouting match between guitars before it settles into its original melody for the outro. Through the clamour, those choral lines still remain with you. Speaking on the track, the band have said: “The Recogniser is a feeling of someone leaving. It’s a post-apocalyptic exploration of what life looks like when the river-dancing contest has gone on for too long and you get a free drink in the pouring rain.” It's a rather abstract rumination, but you feel called to lose yourself in the disarray. Terra Twin's forthcoming EP Static Separation is due early next year via Dance To The Radio, and 'The Recogniser' has set the scene of the changed world that they intend to explore. -Kayla Sandiford
